Did you get the pun? What’s app to Love and Friendship? Anyway, you’ll get it soon enough as you understand what this messenger app is all about.
The WhatsApp App?
“WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS.” – From the WhatsApp Website
It’s nifty app if you want to stay connected with your friends all the time but don’t want to spend money on SMS charges. As long as you have an internet connection, you can use WhatsApp anywhere and anytime. It’s a great alternative for calling and texting if you asked me. The name is also pretty witty (now you know that it’s a pun on “What’s up?”) so it’s catchy and really easy to remember.
Unlike other messenger apps, WhatsApp is available on a lot of devices including iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia. Basically, the app has 3 features: send messages, pictures, videos, do group chats and share locations. You can also make calls, share contacts directly. The app is even available in several languages.
How do I use WhatsApp?
Downloading the app is easy. Go to the AppStore if you have an iPhone or go to the Play Store if you have an Android phone. Type in WhatsApp on the search bar and hit search. Download the app and wait for it to run.
When you open WhatsApp, it will ask for your number. It will automatically detect your country so just input your cell number on the space provided. Press “done” after doing so. The app will let you review your number by asking if it is correct. Hit edit if you made a mistake or hit yes to proceed. Wait a few moments while the app verifies your number. It will then send you a code via SMS for further verification. You’ll be given a time limit of 5mins to enter the code. Enter the code from the SMS.
NOTE: WhatsApp is free for 1 year. The next years will cost you $0.99.

Saying WhatsApp to Love and Friendship
But enough about the basic How-Tos, let’s get to this because this is the main topic. Now, you can use WhatsApp your own way but did you know that you can also use it for dating and for meeting new people? This is especially true if you want to stay in touch with someone from another country. How? We have a few suggestions:
A. Meet someone online and stay connected through WhatsApp
So option number one: since there are several other forms of communication available, you can just use WhatsApp as a supplement. As soon as you meet someone online, suggest WhatsApp so you can text each other 24-7 (if that’s even possible), at any time of the day.
B. Join a Dating Group
Like-minded individuals would eventually find a way to converge in one spot. For those that feel like WhatsApp is a good online dating tool, they’ve created WhatsApp Dating groups which you can find all over the internet. Mate4all is one example.
C. Gather WhatsApp Numbers via Forums
Ok so it sounds like you’re scouring the web for numbers but no, it’s actually just forums and you don’t even have to scour that hard to find fellow WhatsApp users. Popular dating forums should be a good place to start. If you don’t see anyone posting anything about WhatsApp on the dating forum you signed up to, make your own post and start a thread so people can have a place to refer to if they’re also looking for WhatsApp users like you.
What to Do When You Have a Number
Say HI and introduce yourself, that’s what you do but don’t forget that you need to keep it short. It’s text and not email, after all. After that, you can just wing it depending on what topic your conversation falls in. Just remember, don’t be shy but don’t be too open at the same time. You’ll find that friend or that next love, sooner or later through WhatsApp.
